Walk to School Day and Walk-A-Thon are October 7!
On the morning of October 7, the five buses (Grape, Turquoise, Apple, Gray, and Mahogany) will unload at Grady Avenue and 10th Street. Staff members will escort students to school from that point. A school resource officer and the crossing guard will offer support as we cross 10th, Grady, and Gordon Avenues to make this a safe route to school event. Parents are encouraged to come out and support this walk-to-school event. Students should wear their Venable T-shirts to school Wednesday. They will carry banners and flags as they walk to school. The Charlottesville High School cheerleaders are our special guests for this morning event. This should be a spirited and fun way to start the day! After breakfast and morning meeting, we will head down to the big field for our annual Walk-A-Thon. Remember to turn in pledge forms! Rain date for both events is Thursday, October 8. Join Us for Trick or Read!
Come hear Venable staff read some of their favorite stories, see our crazy costumes, earn reading-related prizes, and enjoy pizza for the whole family. Our annual fun reading event takes place from 5:30-7:00pm on October 29. More information will be in your child's backpack soon! Q1 Report Cards and Parent-Teacher Conferences
Believe it or not, parent teacher conferences are right around the corner. Our first quarter ends on October 23 and it is our goal to have an in-person conference with each family during or at the end of the quarter. This conference is a chance for you to provide us with your expert insight into your child and to learn about the progress that he or she is making thus far. Your child's teacher will have student work and assessment information from the quarter to share with you. Because there are many things that can be reviewed in a conference, it is often helpful to come with some specific questions that you know you want to review with your child's teacher. Don't be afraid to be direct! We want you to leave having a clear impression of what is happening in your child's classroom and how you and your child's teacher can partner together in support of an exciting year of deep learning. Conference day is officially November 3, but your child's teacher may offer other days and times as well, in order to accommodate everyone's schedules. Because we will be meeting with each family in person, comments on the first quarter report card will be minimal. Report cards will be sent home November 5 to families who have their conferences prior to that date. Families who come in after November 5 will receive the report card at the conference. See What's Happening in the Venable Library this Fall
Students are setting goals, reading lots of good books, learning keyboarding, and practicing spoken word, among many other things. Check out Ms. Schrank's newsletter: http://tinyurl.com/FallLibraryNewsletter2015 If you would like to access your email or the internet in the Venable library, we are holding extended library hours this year Monday through Thursday until 4:00pm. Further, Ms. Schrank is happy to work with any parent who would like assistance accessing PowerSchool and/or Canvas. Just send her a note or drop in after hours. |
