Clubs are starting at Venable!
Beginning October 17, we will have clubs running on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for students in grades 2-4. Flyers went home on Thursday, Sept. 29 and are due back on Tuesday, October 4. Students are encouraged to consider these after school opportunities. Bus transportation is provided so that all students may participate. If you have questions about clubs, see Ms. Martin for more information. The first session of clubs will run from Oct. 17-Dec. 1, with no clubs the week of Thanksgiving.
Congratulations, Ms. Martin!
Thank you to Dr. Laura Ricciardi, Venable parent, and Traci Martin, PE teacher, who have successfully applied for a $2000 mini-grant from the Safe Routes to School organization. Funds will be used to help support greater access to physical activity for students, including a new bike rack, pedometers and safety vests. Thank you also to Dr. Ricciardi and Charlottesville Family Practice for securing smoothies for our Walk-A-Thon!
Thank you to Joanca Schenk for her help coordinating our Walk-A-Thon last week. It was loads of fun! It's not too late to contribute to this important fund-raiser!
Parent University on October 10
Author Kimberly Johnson will show you how to encourage your child’s love of reading and writing! See this flyer for more information about how to register for Parent University, open to ALL CCS parents. Childcare is provided.
Jump Into Reading!
October 11, 5:30-7pm
Help us break the World Record for the most people jumping rope in a 24 hour period AND have fun reading! We are combining First Lady Michelle Obama's World Record challenge with our former Read to Succeed Night. Come enjoy a book with your child(ren) in the library, jump rope for 1 minute and enjoy free pizza from the PTO. See the flyer for more.
Picture Day is October 12!
Flyers are going home this week for pricing.
Read Aloud to a Child Week, Oct. 17-21
Would you like to come read your favorite children's book to a group of students during the week? Please email our librarian, Ms. Schrank, if you are interested at: email@example.com. For more information on this week, visit the website, http://www.readaloudva.org/
PTO Meeting, Oct. 18, 5:30-6:30pm
Come hear about plans for the year and find out more about how you can be involved at whatever level you're comfortable. There's something for everyone in the Venable PTO!
Volunteers still needed
Our preK teachers would love to have someone supervise nap a few times a month so that they can meet together during the school day to plan. If you are available, please contact Beth Jenkins or Laura Flickinger. Our librarian, Ms. Schrank, would love help first thing in the mornings checking in and shelving books. Days needed are primarily Mondays and Tuesdays.
