Fourth Graders' Film to Appear in VA Film Festival
Team Nussbaum wrote, directed, and produced an original film called "The Rainbow School Bus Goes Deep Into Protesting," which will be featured during Family Film Day activities on Saturday, November 11. The students worked with Light House Studio to learn about storyboarding, acting, staging, and producing a movie. The project was a collaboration between Mr. Nussbaum's class as well as the Quest, music, and iStem programs at Venable. Our administration, librarian, and a CCS' school bus driver also pitched in! All the work was done by the students, and their product is simply amazing. We hope you might be able to see it. Showing is at 1pm on Saturday at the Arts Grounds at UVA. Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon Coming Next Week!
We would love to have family and friends join us for Thanksgiving lunch on Thursday, Nov. 16 during your child's regular lunch time (except 4th grade, which will be at 11am). Due to a previously planned 1st grade field trip that interferes with their regular lunch time, our first graders will not be able to invite guests for the Thanksgiving luncheon. Please fill out the attached flyer or RSVP by Nov. 13 to our kitchen at [email protected]. Adult meals are $3.25 and student meals are $2.35.
Venable and Other CCS Schools Honored for Environmental Stewardship
CCS schools were among 72 state schools awarded this year by the Virginia Naturally School Recognition Program, the official environmental education school recognition program of Virginia. This award follows the school division’s 2016 federal Green Ribbon School designation. Congratulations, Mrs. Combs, Blue Ridge Area Art Educator of the Year!
At the state art educators conference last week, Mrs. Combs presented a workshop about Venable's Maker Space collaboration between the art and library programs. She was also named the Art Educator of the Year for our district. We are proud of her accomplishment and so glad that she shares her talents with us every week! Nominate an Outstanding Venable Teacher for the Golden Apple Award
The Golden Apple Award program is designed to honor outstanding teachers in public and private schools in Albemarle County and Charlottesville City. One winner is selected from each school, and eight winners also will receive a $1,000 Golden Apple Grant, which can be used for classroom materials or to support the recipient’s professional development. Please consider nominating a teacher at Venable who has made a difference for your child. Nomination forms should be submitted to Mrs. Kershner by February 1 and are available online at http://www2.k12albemarle.org/dept/instruction/Pages/golden-apple-award.aspx. Venable's most recent recipients of the Golden Apple Award are: 2017: Nicole Driggs, Speech 2016: Cindy Cartwright, Quest 2015: Diane Forasté, 1st grade 2014: Karen Minor, Kindergarten 2013: Michael Salvatierra, Music 2012: Traci Martin, PE 2011: Brenda Payne, Kindergarten 2009: Nancy Mimms, 2nd grade Buttons Celebrating Walking to School
Kyle Rodland of Safe Routes to School has provided each school with buttons that can be distributed to students who walk or ride bikes to school. Be on the lookout for a red acorn button. These will be handed out in the mornings at arrival time periodically. Students may collect buttons all year long! If you haven't tried walking to school yet this year, give it a try while the weather is still nice. It's a great way to start the day! If you want to learn more or meet up with other parents interested in walking to school, please consider coming to a parent information meeting with Kyle on November 30 at 8am in the North Lobby. |
