Congratulations, Retirees!
This year, two Venable teachers will be retiring, and we want to celebrate all their years of service to education and to Venable. June 9 will be the last day of school for David Ferreira and Cindy Dragich, who have both enjoyed long, exciting careers as teachers. Mr. Ferreira is completing his 40th year of teaching, the last 18 of which have been in Charlottesville. Ms. Dragich has taught and been an administrator in the US and abroad. Her last 5 years have been with us at Venable in special education. We wish them both well in the next chapter of their lives! Student Contest: Design the Next Venable T-Shirts
Our popular Venable t-shirts were brought in when our current 4th graders were kindergarteners. It's time for the next generation of Venable t-shirts, and this time we want to solicit good ideas from our students. We are running a t-shirt design contest for the next two weeks. Submissions are due by May 19 and the winner will be announced on May 26. Please see this flyer for more details: Talent Show: It WlLL Be Back!
Several parents and students have asked about the status of our talent show this year. When we found out about several new initiatives we were undertaking for this school year, we put a tentative Talent Show date on the calendar and promised as a staff that we would revisit our ability to hold the show once we had a clear idea of how these initiatives would impact our time and our schedule. A Talent Show subcommittee met last month and then brought the issue forward to our faculty. Without taking out other traditions (such as field day) from the calendar, we could not find a way to fit in the time needed for try outs, rehearsals, and the show itself in the last 8 weeks of school. As a staff, we have made a decision that we will forego a talent show for this school year. However, we believe that some changes in the calendar for next year will allow us to bring back this Venable tradition. We apologize for the disappointment, but please know that we searched high and low and could not come up with a good solution. This time of year is just so very busy. Looking Ahead to 2017-2018
It's hard to believe, but after SOL testing this month, we will be working on the transition to next school year. We use a thoughtful, deliberate process to place students into classes each year. This process includes input from specialists as well as homeroom teachers about academic and social needs of the students. It is a big puzzle and parents are a part of the puzzle. In order to help us make the best placement decisions for your child, please put in writing to Mrs. Kershner your answers to the following questions about each of your children. (Please put your answers for each of your children on a separate sheet of paper or separate email. This helps Mrs. Kershner stay organized!):
You may choose to send your responses through email or on paper through June 2 (please note the earlier deadline this year). |
