Rising Kindergarten Parents Needed to host summer playdates for rising K students. Coordinate a meeting at a city pool, on the Venable playground or a local park. This is an informal opportunity for new students and parents to get to know one another before school starts. If you are interested in hosting, please contact Mrs. Kershner. Very little planning is required--just agree to be in a specific location at a specific time!
PLEASE CHECK OUR LOST AND FOUND!
We will leave items in lost and found through the end of the day June 13. There are many treasures to be recovered! After that, items will be saved for the clothing swap in the fall or donated.

Ms. Claire Cline!
Since 1984, Claire Cline has been serving students with speech and language disabilities in the public schools. Ms. Cline joined the Venable staff in 1999, where she has made a huge difference for our students. In addition to graduating many students from her program, Ms. Cline has been our resident school photographer, note-taker, and cheerleader. We will miss her attention to detail, her enthusiasm, and her commitment to our students. We wish her much joy walking, reading and traveling in her retirement!
What's Ahead in 2014-15
With the addition of a new 4-year-old pre-school class to our building next year, several Venable staff members are moving into different positions and many classroom spaces are being relocated. We are also getting new interior paint and a refinished gym floor! Staffing changes include:
Mr. Salvatierra was awarded the VA Lottery Super Teacher Award on May 23. The announcement followed a fantastic musical performance by our kindergarten students. He was one of 8 recipients in the state of the $2000 cash prize plus $2000 in office supplies.

Want to Share Your Passion with 4th Graders?
We are beginning our planning for a new series of mini-electives for next year's 4th graders. Do you have a skill, profession, or passion that students might want to learn about? We need your help! The goal is to provide students with a variety of choices to engage the curriculum in ways that are personally relevant or interesting to them. We are seeking community leaders, artists, business executives and faculty members who might be interested in teaching seven 45-minute sessions on a topic of their choosing to a small group of 4th graders during the school day (on a Friday). Contact Mrs. Kershner if you are interested in talking more about this opportunity. You can also get more information from Ms. Woodard's website: http://venablequest.weebly.com/4th-grade-electives.html
