Student Led Conferences a Big Hit
We are so proud of our students for completing their first ever (most of them) student led conferences. It was a big undertaking, and some of us were nervous to show our work to our families, but in the end, we felt great! One kindergartner told her friends, "I felt like a superhero" when it was over. Another said, "I felt strong." A second grader said that she learned about herself, "I was brave and ready for third grade." Thank you, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, babysitters, for joining us and helping all our students reflect on their learning so far this year. The Wordle below captures 3rd and 4th graders' responses to the question, "I think my conference was..." We look forward to continuing this valuable practice in the future. Fourth Quarter Has Begun!
It's hard to believe, but the last quarter of the school year is upon us. Third quarter ended on March 30 and report cards will be sent home on Thursday, April 20. We have already completed SOL test simulations for reading and math in 3rd and 4th grades so that we can give students an early chance to get the jitters out and give teachers information about what skills still need shoring up. Official SOL testing will begin in May. Recommendations for summer school have already been sent home; please return those forms this week in order to guarantee a spot for your child. Both programs will take place at Greenbrier this summer. If you have questions about your child's performance, please contact your child's teacher for a conference. Kindergarten Registration This Month
Thursday, April 20 from 3:30-6pm Please spread the word that we will be open from 3:30-6pm for all families who have children who will be attending Venable next year and need to register for the first time. While this is advertised as Kindergarten registration, we will also be accepting registration documents for students in other grades. K classrooms will be open for students to visit while parents complete paperwork. Required documentation and sample forms will be available on the CCS website beginning April 11: http://www.ccs.k12.va.us/schools/registration.html |
